On Monday, 24th October, Side by Side – the inclusive nursery and special needs school in Stamford Hill – proudly opened the doors of its new state-of-the-art campus to students for the first time. The £11.6 million, 35,000 square foot purpose-built building marks a significant milestone, increasing the school’s capacity from 80 to 150 pupils. With enhanced facilities and bespoke support, the new campus is designed to meet the individual needs of every student, offering more space and improved resources for a richer learning experience.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Headteacher Gerald Lebrett, along with trustees from Side by Side, had the honour of welcoming students to a ribbon-cutting ceremony beneath a vibrant balloon arch. This marked the official opening of the new campus. Having previously visited the building earlier in the year, the students appeared comfortable and eager as they settled into their new surroundings.
Parents expressed their delight, calling the new school “a dream come true” and “exceptionally welcoming,” while staff shared their excitement about the expanded opportunities available for the children to thrive. There was an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude from both staff and parents alike.
Founded with the mission to ensure every child has a place to feel at home, Side by Side continues to provide children with special educational needs the opportunity to learn, grow, and progress. This new campus will enable the school to extend its vital provisions, offering a holistic approach to education and supporting an even greater number of children in the local community.
Headteacher Gerald Lebrett shared his heartfelt emotions: “It is difficult to put into words what this opening means to me. I am incredibly proud of our whole team, and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making this dream a reality. This is more than just a physical move for us all, and we look forward to the next chapter, as our pupils continue to flourish and reach new heights.”
Jacob Sorotzkin, Trustee at Side by Side, added: “This beautiful project will allow our current and prospective students to maximise their potential and develop in new and exciting ways. On behalf of all of us, I extend my sincere thanks to our donors and fellow trustees. Our dream has become a reality.”
